Fitness has been a huge part of my life for years. I’ve trained at gyms all over Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and other Arizona cities.
Some gyms are overcrowded.
Some are dirty.
Some are more about selfies than actual training.
But there are still some great gyms in Phoenix if you’re serious about:
- fitness
- bodybuilding
- weight loss
- athletic performance
- cycling training
- overall health
- or simply staying disciplined.
These are some of my personal favorite gyms in the Phoenix area.

#1 — Independence Gym
If you’re serious about training, Independence Gym is one of the best hardcore gyms in Arizona.
This is not a “social media influencer” gym.
It’s a real training environment with:
- serious lifters
- old-school energy
- great equipment
- strong atmosphere
- and people focused on results.
The gym has a motivating energy that pushes you to train harder.
If you like bodybuilding, strength training, or serious workouts, this place stands out.
#2 — EOS Fitness
EOS has become one of the most popular gym chains in Arizona because of the value.
For the price, you get:
- lots of equipment
- multiple locations
- cardio areas
- free weights
- classes
- recovery areas
- and long hours.
Some locations are extremely busy during peak hours, but overall EOS gives solid value for the money.
#3 — Mountainside Fitness
Mountainside Fitness is one of the cleaner and more family-friendly gyms in Phoenix.
The atmosphere is balanced and welcoming.
Good for:
- beginners
- families
- general fitness
- cardio
- classes
- and long-term consistency.
They also tend to maintain their locations well compared to many commercial gyms.
#4 — Lifetime Fitness
If you want a higher-end gym experience, Lifetime is one of the top luxury fitness clubs in Arizona.
You get:
- premium equipment
- pools
- recovery areas
- cafes
- coworking spaces
- and a very polished environment.
More expensive than most gyms, but the overall experience is excellent.
#5 — Planet Fitness
Planet Fitness gets a lot of jokes online, but honestly, it serves a purpose.
For beginners or people just starting their fitness journey, it’s affordable and accessible.
The best gym is ultimately the one you consistently go to.
Phoenix Has a Strong Fitness Culture
Phoenix has become one of the better fitness cities in the United States.
Between:
- hiking
- cycling
- bodybuilding
- martial arts
- yoga
- running
- and outdoor activities…
Arizona attracts a lot of people focused on health and self-improvement.
Whether you live in:
- Phoenix
- Scottsdale
- Tempe
- Mesa
- Chandler
- Gilbert
- Glendale
- Peoria
- Surprise
- Goodyear
- Queen Creek
- Paradise Valley
- Fountain Hills
- or nearby Arizona cities…
There are plenty of great gyms and fitness communities around the Valley.
