One of the best things about living in Arizona is the amount of places to ride bicycles year-round. Whether you ride road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, gravel bikes, or e-bikes… Phoenix has some incredible riding spots.
I’ve ridden thousands of miles around Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and surrounding Arizona cities, and these are some of my personal favorite places to ride.

#1 — Tempe Town Lake
Tempe Town Lake is one of the best overall riding spots in Arizona.
The paths are smooth, scenic, and beginner friendly. You can ride around the lake, cruise through Tempe, and connect into Scottsdale and Phoenix bike paths.
This is a great place for:
- casual rides
- sunset rides
- e-bike rides
- date rides
- fitness rides
- beginner cyclists
The atmosphere is active and social without being overwhelming.
If someone is new to cycling in Arizona, this is one of the first places I recommend.
#2 — Scottsdale Greenbelt
The Scottsdale Greenbelt is one of the smoothest and most relaxing rides in the Phoenix area.
You can ride for miles through parks, lakes, golf courses, and beautiful neighborhoods without constantly dealing with heavy traffic.
This ride is especially good for:
- road bikes
- e-bikes
- recovery rides
- long cardio rides
- photography rides
Early mornings and evenings here are amazing.
#3 — South Mountain Park
If you want climbing and more serious training, South Mountain is legendary.
Cyclists from all over Arizona come here to train because the elevation and long climbs can challenge even experienced riders.
The views overlooking Phoenix are incredible.
Great for:
- road cyclists
- training rides
- hill climbing
- endurance work
- serious fitness riders
#4 — Papago Park
Papago is one of the best “middle ground” riding spots.
Not too difficult.
Not too easy.
Good scenery.
Great desert views.
You can combine road riding with light gravel riding depending on the route you take.
It’s also close to Tempe and Scottsdale which makes it convenient.
#5 — Canal Paths Around Phoenix
One of the underrated things about Phoenix is the canal system.
You can ride long distances through different parts of the city with surprisingly little interruption.
These paths are excellent for:
- long steady rides
- commuting
- e-bike cruising
- fitness rides
- low stress riding
A lot of locals overlook these paths, but they’re some of the best riding options in the city.
Phoenix Is Becoming a Great Bicycle City
More people are riding bicycles in:
- Phoenix
- Scottsdale
- Tempe
- Mesa
- Chandler
- Gilbert
- Glendale
- Peoria
- Surprise
- Goodyear
- Paradise Valley
- Fountain Hills
- Queen Creek
- and nearby Arizona cities.
With the weather, bike paths, mountain trails, and growing cycling culture… Arizona is becoming one of the better places in the USA for year-round riding.
Whether you ride for fitness, fun, transportation, mental health, or adventure… there are plenty of amazing places to ride in the Valley.
